7 Activities To Do with Your Kids in Santa Clarita This Spring

Photo shared with permission from The Gentle Barn.

Spring is here. Our days are already getting longer, the weather is getting warmer, and our kids are itching to get out. As we gear up and get ready for Spring, here are 6 fun activities to do with your kids in Santa Clarita while taking advantage of the good weather.

Outdoor activities

Ride the ponies at Gilchrist Farm

Gilchrist Farm has something for kids of all ages. Smaller kids can ride a pony or pet goats, ducks, chickens, pigs, sheep, and bunnies. Older kids can learn to shoot archery and throw axes or go on a guided horseback ride. And the whole family can take a wagon ride pulled by a tractor to see every corner of the farm. And don’t miss their Spring Fling and Egg Hunt on April 2, 3, 9, 10 & 16! Families can make spring crafts, ride the giant slide, hunt for eggs, take pictures with the Easter Bunny, and enjoy baby animals - goats, chicks, piglets and more. We hope you’ll come on the 16th and visit Otter’s booth! We’ll have some giveaways and other fun surprises planned!

Hug and pet animals at The Gentle Barn

The Gentle Barn is a six-acre property in Santa Clarita complete with large horse and cow pastures, a red and white barnyard for smaller animals, an organic vegetable garden, and a panoramic view of the beautiful Sierra Pelona mountains. Founded in 1999 by Ellie Laks, the Gentle Barn rescues animals and provides therapy and healing to children by telling the animals’ stories. The Gentle Barn features 170 rescued animals and hosts private events, field trips, and tours during the week, and opens its gates to the public every Sunday (by reservation only). Tickets are $22 for adults, $12 for kids, and free for kids under 2 and can be purchased here. Go hug the cows, give the pigs tummy rubs, cuddle the turkeys, and enjoy a beautiful day at the Gentle Barn!

Take a family hike through the Placerita Nature Center

The Placerita Nature Center is an east-west running canyon with lots of interesting animal and plant communities. For history-lovers, it is also home to the “Oak of the Golden Dream'' — the site of the original gold discovery in California in 1842.

The Center has lots of family activities this spring. You can take a family nature walk at 11 AM every Saturday to learn more about the local wildlife. If you want to stay indoors with the little ones, they also offer “Placerita Nature Tots'' for children 3 - 6 years old via Zoom on the second Saturday of each month at 10 AM. The big event of the Spring is their Open House on May 14th which is perfect for the whole family: they’ll have crafts & games, “fools” gold panning, animal presentations, caricatures, music, and much more. This is a can’t-miss event in Santa Clarita this spring!

With over 20,000 square feet of slides, sports courts, towers, ball blasters, and high-flying trampolines, there is something for every one of your kids. The rainbow wave slide and ballistics arena are great for middle school-aged kids while older children can work on their game in the basketball and soccer arenas, and infants can enjoy the Mini Beez Zone. Entry is $17.95 for children ages 1-17, $9.95 for ages 0 - 11 months (free with another paid child!), and $3.95 for adults. If you expect to be a Billy Beez regular, their mega 10-pack is a great deal at $160, saving up to $59 and providing 1 free adult entry per visit. Grab a few of your friends and let the kids run around while you take a break and catch up!

Support local families and ring in Summer at Newhall Marketplace

Newhall Marketplace is an annual community event to fundraise for local families in need by bringing together artists, crafters, and other vendors for a fun-filled event. While it only got started  in 2021, Newhall Marketplace is already  the most-anticipated  “Hello Summer” event in Santa Clarita. The 2021 event took place in October and featured 50+ vendors, food trucks, and donation bins for the Santa Clarita Food Pantry. This year’s event takes place on June 5th from 10 AM - 4 PM at the Newhall Community Center and will feature vendors in jewelry, candles, and much more.
